Holiday cottages close to Carcassonne

We decided to leave Paris and to have a new life in the South of France where we used to spend our summer holidays during more then ten years. As we really enjoyed the Languedoc area we decided to share it with other people who like us really needed interesting and happy holidays. Our summer holiday village is close to the canal du midi and we were lucky to find there an old winery to create a nice place to stay and to relax. After a heavy program of renovation of one year and a half our holiday cottages close to Carcassonne are a perfect place to visit the whole area. None of our visitors from England, Gemany, Switzerland and many other countries would miss the visit of the old city of Carcassonne which is part of the UNESCO list of world heritage sites since 1997. It is really a grat place for the imagination of the children but also of the parents. The city was attacked many times and you can imagine the terrible fights in front of the remparts and against the towers designed to protect the city. During the summer you can watch tournaments between knights fighting on their horses. You can also travel more far in time as 17 towers which are still there were buits during the Gallo-Roman period. You can easely find them at they have a characteristic shape: they are semi-circular. You can find similar towers in the walls around the Palais des Archevêques in Narbonne. The roman were inccredible fihters, conquerants and builders. However the city was not built in one time but by regular addition of protective elements during 2500 years and this is what you can see today. No more wars hopefully but an incredible testimony of what men could do to protect their lives and show their power. Visiting everything will need a lot of energy but you will easely find a nice place to drink and eat. The one we found was just outside the castle in front of the remparts and of the right tower. We had a wonderful cassoulet on a nice sunny terrasse. We hope you will find this place and try the cassoulet. Enjoy your visit ! A bientôt !
