Carcassonneis the most important medieval city in Europe. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and will make you dream with its alleys, its 3 km long ramparts and its 52 towers.

It is the most visited in the region (with around 100,000 visitors per year) and it is also one of the most original: Cistercian abbey founded in 1093, which became a private historical monument in 1908, it still belongs to the same family. and offers many activities all year round. There are over 20 abbeys to visit in the region.
There are many medieval villages such as Minerveand Lagrasse, both classified among “The Most Beautiful Villages of France”. The first is an incredible Cathar village perched on its rocky outcrop surrounded by scrubland and vineyards, the second is crossed by the Orbieu and is distinguished by its alleys, its bridges, its covered market from the 14th century and its abbey founded in the 8th century.
Quéribus and Peyrepertuse, castles of the Cathar country, are fine examples of royal fortresses built on rocky peaks to defend the border with Spain. The view from their peaks is impressive.
